Directors Lounge presents Visuman’s paintings, and videos in collaboration with André Chi Sing Yuen (”GROW”), respectively Marcel Munte (”Wolkenteppich”)
VISUMAN Geometria est archetypus pulchritudinis mundi.
“Visuman shall be the visual man, whose communication skills are principally visual. Visuman is an abstraction; television-head, on- and-off-button-body, cable-legs. Visuman inhabits a world shown in graphs of mathematical functions. Therefore truth is represented at its best. Visuman pictures are recognised as something similar to all attempts to gain knowledge of truth. The self-similarity of non- inear functions in visuman pictures explains the similarity of patterns shown in the artwork of the world’s cultures.”
About
JT lives since 1983 in Berlin, from 1993 until 1997 in Hong Kong. The project Visuman is launched during JT’s travels and stays in Asia, America and Europe. Exhibitors and collectors around the planet love the truth in the forms painted by visuman. The technique of Visuman drawings is Japanese ink on paper or cardboard from 1992 until 2000. The transapparatus picture is a visuman-technique, using a copier to implement a drawing into a new picture. Colour fills form. Since 2000 visuman is painted in acrylics on canvas. Colour folds form. In 2001 the virtual visuman, digitized and generated by the machine, becomes a fellow being in a fractalized world. Form fills form. In 2002 the fractal geometry, evaluated by the virtual visuman on the screen the year before, becomes painted reality on canvas. Form folds form.

The Exquisite Corpse Video Project (ECVP) is a unique video collaboration among artists from all over the world, inspired by the Surrealist creation method, the “Exquisite Corpse”. Using the semi-blind, sequential method of the surrealists’ game, ECVP participants create video art in response to the final ten seconds of the previous member’s work. Each member is asked to incorporate these seconds into their piece, creating transitions as they please, until everyone’s vision is threaded together into an instigating final “corpse”. Rather than providing a unitary linear narrative, each participant maintains his/her own style, permeated by the diverse cultural backgrounds.

Sense of Place, 2015 The term “sense of place” may describe both an arrangement of features that makes a place unique and the sensation and perception of place as experienced by the living bodies that belong to it.
The body is our general medium for having a world and our relationship to space is inevitably connected with culture and shaped by the kind of bodies we have.
Echoes of a Forgotten Embrace, 2016 Echoes of a Forgotten Embrace takes inspiration from the concept of emotional memory, depicting the encounter of two lovers in a liminal dimension, a place where movements preserve the memory of the past and create a synthesis of the entire action. The work has been created with a mix of body projection, light painting, real time randomization and animation techniques.
Echoes of a Forgotten Embrace and Sense of Place are both chapters that constitute DROP , a project divided into several autonomous works focusing on the dialectical relationship between the concept of Infinity and Control as a fundamental issue of human nature.

Here is a taste of the future. On the DL menu for the first time at Berliner Liste contemporary art fair 2015: a new kind of screening, directly on your tablet or smart phone, a sneak into our archives at your fingertip. Make no mistake, we are not talking about an online presentation. We are sticking to our tradition of connecting art and audience in a vivid get-together at selected locations. But this time it is a collective yet when-you-want-it experience. You bring the screens, we serve the films.
Our teammates here are also true innovators:
shoutrlabs, a young Berlin-based company at the forefront of media app development. Their “shoutr.Boxx” allows large-volume multi-media products to appear with ease on the screens that are presently in all hands… smartphones, tablets, laptops. No Internet connection needed.
Going Underground, the short film festival that accompanies you in rushing trains under the streets of high-speed world cities. Like Directors Lounge, a front-edge viewing event outside the standard black box cinema environment.
Further we’d like to thank netzwerkvirus and last but not least SWOOFLE for supplying some cool “Flat Cubes” for our lounge lizards.
Experience today what others will be tapping into tomorrow. Our (de)vice is going beyond and off the path. Non-definition continues to be our definition.
In the DL buzz tradition of “You had to be there,” you have to be there.
