ATYPICAL. ASYNCHRONOUS. ASTOUNDING.

DL à la carte | the happening in your pocket.

Here is a taste of the future. On the DL menu for the first time at Berliner Liste contemporary art fair 2015: a new kind of screening, directly on your tablet or smart phone, a sneak into our archives at your fingertip.
Make no mistake, we are not talking about an online presentation. We are sticking to our tradition of connecting art and audience in a vivid get-together at selected locations.
But this time it is a collective yet when-you-want-it experience. You bring the screens, we serve the films.

Our teammates here are also true innovators:

shoutrlabs, a young Berlin-based company at the forefront of media app development. Their “shoutr.Boxx” allows large-volume multi-media products to appear with ease on the screens that are presently in all hands… smartphones, tablets, laptops. No Internet connection needed.

Going Underground, the short film festival that accompanies you in rushing trains under the streets of high-speed world cities. Like Directors Lounge, a front-edge viewing event outside the standard black box cinema environment.

Further we’d like to thank netzwerkvirus and last but not least SWOOFLE for supplying some cool “Flat Cubes” for our lounge lizards.

Experience today what others will be tapping into tomorrow. Our (de)vice is going beyond and off the path. Non-definition continues to be our definition.

In the DL buzz tradition of “You had to be there,” you have to be there.

See you at the

It might be only a tiny taste of what we get up to, the thinnest wedge of the whole juicy Directors Lounge melon, but if you’re swirling around the Berliner Liste contemporary art fair at Postbahnhof any time between now and Sunday (when the curtain drops), make a point of swinging by DL’s booth (G1.34 on the upper floor) for a handful of hypnotizing video moments culled from our store of films and film-ettes. Turkish media-art darling Erdal Inci’s mesmerizing GIFs, first screened publicly in Germany at [DLX]* this year and already drawing attention worldwide, will be there, as well as Korean, Greek, Japanese and Finnish picks (Hye Young Kim, Hara Katsiki, Shinkan Tamaki, Maria Björklund) plus visual conundrums and vortex configurations from DLers Julia Murakami and André Werner and more. Manned by Team DL members and waiting to see you.

Performances at Berliner Liste.

One of the reasons to go to the fairs is the fact that you´ll always meet familiar faces. Like Ellen Kobe, performance artist who premiered her video Moma goes on at the very first Berlin International Directors Lounge back in 2005.

At the opening night of the Berliner Liste, Sept. 17th, 7:20pm, she´ll give a guided tour entitled “Welcome”. A tour with a twist as Ellen will use the art fair space to introduce you to the Sanssouci Palace, interweaving time and space.

Or Fried Rosenstock, a regular at Directors Lounge during the last years, who performs the same day from 7pm on. His work “Ich kenne das Land wo die Zitronen blühen” is based on the famous line from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s novel Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre “Knowest thou where the lemon blossom grows”.

Contemporary interventions with a classical background.
