Dagie Brundert, Berlin’s most popular artist in small gauge cinema, invites you to welcome the coming springtime. The artist’s preferred media are self-developed Super-8 film and pinhole photography. She never fails to impress with her continuous, ongoing work in the small format and she always inspires her audience with cheerful philosophy.

For more than 15 years, she has been teaching film seminars in the USA, Italy, Sweden and Germany, among other places. She is teaching, how to conceive small wonders by using Super-8 cameras and ecological means of development. When developing with Caffenol, vegetable juice or potato brew together with soda and vitamin C, she aims not only at environmental issues, but also at the conscious simplicity of the means and joy in the small moments of everyday life. As in her films, it is about awareness, slowing down from the speed of life, but also about humor in relation to the absurdities of everyday occurrences. The film, her films make us look at things in a different light. The wonders of simple means are also evident in the voice-overs, some of which are spoken in three languages simultaneously, the handwritten film titles and the songs accompanied by ukulele. The joy of chance and of non-perfection go hand in hand with sometimes dominant film grain, or the film’s unpredictable coloring received by the development. The achieved quality is not compromised by the video presentation: no artificial purism, but pragmatic simplicity of means, even in the editing and soundtrack.

Dagie’s film presentations are always celebrations of joy. Thus we look forward to this varied film program welcoming spring together with the artist. Dagie Brundert will be present for Q&A. Curated by Klaus W. Eisenlohr.
