This night consist of two seperated screenings, reflecting her role as a curator for chinese cinema as well as her work as a director and performer.
First Marina Foxley presents an "avant goût" of our forth-coming special on independent Chinese films.
The second part serves us three video-performances, each with different perspectives and choreographies of the nude body. Her own work, Still Life will be screened in world premiere.
part 1
In association with Zhu Rikun (Fanhall Studio), two Chinese shorts will be screened during the first part of the night. These works are independent documentaries, shot in DV. They are portraits of the common people in mainland China, each differ in circumstances, but both are set in a railway environment.

Spring Festival is coming. In China, it is the time for family reunion and people keep up the tradition of returning home for the New Year celebration, especially the migratory workers who have been away from their hometown all year long struggling for a living in big cities. A cheap train ticket is their first choice. So begins the annual overcrowding of railroad transportation...
Director Xu Xin
About the director :
Born in 1966, in Taizhou, (Jiangsu Province) and now resident in Nanjing, Xu Xin is an independent documentarist who focuses on the grass-roots existences in China, especially the minorities and socially vulnerable groups.To him, the act of documenting itself is a way of participating in the construction of history.
Filmography : Ma Pi (2003), Carriage (2004), Fangshan Church (2005).
Now : editing another documentary Stage, which has taken him over three years to record the life behind the scenes of several Sichuan Opera actresses, and above all, their encounters after being obliged to quit the stage.
SARS in Beijing (Wang Shiqing, 2003, 15 minutes)
In the spring of 2003, Beijing was hit by an outbreak of atypical pneumonia called SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). The epidemic sparked off a public panic and soon, people were fleeing the city in droves. On May 8, 2003 I decided to go to Beijing’s West Railway Station to film and interview some of the travelers. This film is a record of the events I witnessed that day in the station.

About the director:
Wang Shiqing was born in 1973 in Ankang City, Shaanxi Province, China. As a teenager, he studied radio and electronics in Jiangsu Province and began working in Xi’an when he was 19. At the age of 23, Wang was admitted to the Beijing Film Academy, where he studied cinematography. He is currently working on a variety of films, television and documentary projects.
